According to the Board of Supervisors Agenda posted here the recommendation to close County Parks will be item number 11 on the agenda. Not sure what exact time it will come up since it is hard to tell how long the other items will be discussed. The meeting is at 9am Tuesday, January 27th at the Hall of Records
Specifically, the County Administrative Officer(who, incidentally was just approved for a raise of $27,960 effective in July) recommends closing all county parks effective March 6, 2009 and continuing the closure into fiscal year 2009-10. In other words, the parks could be closed for over one year.
Other cost cutting measures will be considered for the Parks system. The Table Mtn proposal is going to be considered as well as a proposal to contract with the California Conservation Corps for maintenance, or putting maintenance out to bid to the private sector. Other cost cutting measures should be given more consideration. From the documents available it appears that only closing the parks has really been fully considered.
Once again, I urge you to contact your Supes and let them know why parks are important to all Fresno County residents and why they should remain open. If possible please attend the meeting as well and voice your opinion.
