Join Gary Woods on Jan. 24th! - Field Trip!

Please join me on Saturday, January 24th for a field trip to the Fresno Wastewater Treatment ponds on Jensen Ave where we hope to find around 65-70 species of birds. Last year’s trip had very cold weather but we were rewarded with goodies like Peregrine Falcon, Mew Gull, Townsend’s Warbler and Cackling Goose in addition to the large array of waterfowl and shorebirds we’d normally expect this time of year. We will make a special effort to get close looks at the Burrowing Owls and help anyone in need of shorebird, gull and waterfowl identification pointers. We’ll have spotting scopes aimed at various birds for people to step up and view along with extra binoculars and special bird books showing accurate pictures of what we’re looking at.

Meet at the south-
east corner of Blackstone and Gettysburg (the old Fresno Ag parking lot) at 6:45 a.m. so we can leave at 7 sharp. Carpooling is encouraged but not mandatory, and there is no walking involved. Bring a photo ID to get into the wastewater complex to prove you’re not a potential terrorist. Also bring lunch, water, a two-way radio if you have one, your binoculars and a friend who likes birds. Those choosing to continue birding can join us for lunch at nearby Kearney Park where a whole different set of birds await. For further details you can call me at 567-6005. I hope to see some beginning birders out there, and kids are especially welcome - Gary Woods.
